The Vanes Caldera is in Sandoval County, New Mexico (Fig. 1). The caldera, subsequent resurgent dome, later intracaldera domes and flows, and present solfatara activity can be seen from New Mexico 4. Most of the caldera floor itself is owned or controlled by the Baca Ranch and is not accessible. In winter, New Mexico 4 is intermittently closed through the caldera due to ice or snow.
