Abstract

Ship Rock, the erosional remnant of an Oligocene volcanic vent, is a prominent feature of the skyline in northwest New Mexico. It rises 1,700 ft (500 m) above a surrounding plain, 24 mi (38 km) south-southeast of the Four Corners and 10 mi (17 km) southwest of the town of Shiprock.
