The Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument, Teller County, Colorado
The Florissant National Monument is easily accessible by taking U.S. 24 west from Colorado Springs to the small town of Florissant, 35 mi (56 km) away (Fig. 1). At the town center, turn south toward Cripple Creek on the unpaved Teller County Road No. 1. The national monument is 0.5 mi (0.8 km) from the town of Florissant. The entire national monument area can be seen in half a day’s time.
