The Butte mining district is in Silver Bow County in southwestern Montana at the intersection of 1-15 and 1-90. The district proper lies north and west of these highways, and most of it is within the business and residential areas of Butte. Because city streets provide access to all of the stops, they are easily accessible by automobile or on foot as shown in Figure 1.
