Outcrops of ultramafic rock enclosed within Rowe Schist along the Taconian suture are just north of Cone Road in the township of Middlefield, western Massachusetts. The site is about 6.4 mi (10 km) north of the village of Chester, which, in turn, is located on U.S. 20 about 25 mi (40 km) west-northwest of the city of Springfield, Massachusetts. The site itself is in the northwest comer of the Chester 7½-minute Topographic Quadrangle (see also Hatch and others, 1970).
