A new species, Elphidium karenae, has been recorded from pre-Weichselian interglacial (probably Eemian) sediments of southwest Iceland and from interglacial marine deposits belonging to the Breidavik Group (Early Pleistocene) of north Iceland. The new species resembles Elphidium advenum, Elphidium gerthi and Elphidium excavatum but is not conspecific with these species.
