12.1 A BIT OF HISTORY

In this chapter, we will describe several practical applications of magnetotellurics in exploration for mineral resources and in studies of the deep earth's interior. For the most part we will consider magnetotelluric surveys carried out earlier in the USSR and subsequently in contemporary Russia. We start with a brief historical review.
