2.1 BASIC TYPES OF MAGNETOTELLURIC VARIATIONS

The regional part of the natural time-varying electromagnetic field of the earth is called the magnetotelluric field, or more simply, the MT field. It consists of a telluric (electric) field, and a geomagnetic (magnetic) field.

Temporal changes in the MT field are called magnetotelluric (MT) variations. These are separated into telluric and geomagnetic variations.
