The development stage of a reservoir covers the period after data collection and subsequent appraisal when the project is considered viable and investment has been committed. Field development often is viewed in phases: planning, in which a depletion strategy is determined, initial production wells are located, and facilities are designed; and initial buildup, when facilities are constructed and initial wells are brought on stream. Development-related activities also extend into field production.
