Mathematical Foundation of Elastic Wave Propagation

Abstract

Seismic waves induce elastic deformation along the propagation path in the subsurface. The equation of wave propagation in elastic solids are derived by using Hooke's law and Newton's second law of motion. We shall begin with the stress-strain relation for elastic solids.
