Geology and Mineral Deposits of the Taxco Mining District

Abstract

The Taxco district is located in the northern part of Guerrero state, near the states of Mexico and Morelos, in the physiographic subprovince known as the Balsas-Mexcala Basin, a division of the Sierra Madre del Sur province. It is further defined by the coordinates 18°33′ north and 99°35′ west, comprising an area of approximately 100 km2 with an average elevation of 1,700 m above sea level (Fig. 1).
