Abstract

The Velardeña mining district is located in the northeastern portion of the state of Durango in the Republic of Mexico. It lies approximately 95 km south-southwest of Torreon, Coahuila and 270 km east of Durango, Durango on Mexican Highway 40. The Sierra de Santa Maria, an igneous dome, is located in the southwestern portion of the district, across the Cuencame Valley from the Sierra de San Lorenzo, the other range in the district (Fig. 1).
