The present volume of the Bibliography of Fossil Vertebrates is the last in a series begun in 1928 by C. L. Camp and V. L. Vanderhoof. Previous volumes have been published by The Geological Society of America as its Special Papers 27 and 42, and Memoirs 37, 57, 84, 92, 117, and 134. Attempts during the past five years to arrange for financing the compilation of further volumes have been fruitless.
Like the “Bibliography and Catalogue of the Fossil Vertebrata of North America” by O. P. Hay which preceded them, the primary objective of these bibliographies has been to provide rapid access to citations to all publications dealing with any taxon of fossil vertebrates that appeared during the years included in each volume. Dr. Camp extended the geographic scope from North America to the entire world, and added an extensive index to subject matter other than biological systematics.
The author catalogue contains citations to publications on fossil vertebrates which appeared during the years 1969 through 1972 and were received in Berkeley before the end of January 1973. Articles published before 1969 which had been omitted from earlier volumes are also cited. We regret that some works published in 1972 were received too late for inclusion.
The Subject Index of the present volume has been extensively revised. Its columnar format and triple hierarchy of headings are adapted from the “Bibliography and Index of Geology”, compiled by the American Geological Institute and published by the Geological Society of America. This changes was. . .
