Abstract

Medium to high K calcalkaline (CA) volcanics in the Carpathians are remnants of an Eocene and Miocene volcanic arc. This volcanism was followed by alkali basalts (AB) in the Quaternary. The CA rocks vary in composition from basaltic andesite to rhyolite, while the ABs are restricted in composition to 44-48% SiO2.
