The Standard Facies Belts

Abstract

Irrespective of geologic time and setting, shallow-water carbonates have a strong tendency to develop similar facies belts. These facies can be grouped into a platform model (Figure 2-1), best summarized by Wilson (1975). Important specifics on particular facies have been added from other authors.
