Name: Iberian basin

Location: From 41° 45' to 39° 25' north latitude and 4° west to 0° 35' east longitude, Iberian Range, eastern Iberian Peninsula

Geologic time interval: Late Cenomanian (Metoicoceras geslinianum biozone) to early Turonian (Mammites nodosoides biozone)

Tectonic-sedimentary setting: Intracratonic, related to the Iberian aulacogen

Basin type: Epicontinental shelf

Paleoclimate: Probably warm and humid

Platform type: Ramp evolving to a distally steepened ramp

Platform geometry: Irregular sedimentary prism, narrow (150 km wide) and elongate (more than 300 km long) basin trending northwest-southeast; thicknesses ranging from 20 m (northwest) to 80 m (southeast)

Facies and fossils: Carbonates (mainly dolostones), marls, and minor sandstones; ammonites, nautiloids, echinoderms, pelecypods, and planktic and benthic foraminifera

Systems tracts: Shelf (ramp), shelf margin (slope), basin

Stacking patterns: Progradational
