Abstract

Most magmatic sulfide ores contain 5 major constituents, Fe, S, O, Ni and Cu. It is possible to simplify the discussion of the relevant phase equilibria by considering melting relations in the three component Fe-S-O system, and then the effects of introducing small amounts of Ni and Cu.

For this reason, high-temperature phase relations in the system Fe-S-O are discussed first, followed by consideration of the effect of substitution of other components, and then equilibrium between Fe-S-O liquids and mafic silicate magmas.
