Regional magnetic-anomaly maps of the States of Alaska and Hawaii and adjacent offshore areas have been published at scales of 1:2 500 000. These maps were manually compiled from previously published maps of various scales and contour intervals by merging 200-gamma (200-nT) contours. A study of the International Geomagnetic Reference Field (IGRF) in Alaska revealed that this regional field would not cause a problem in merging data from surveys flown several years apart. Comparisons of data flown with different specifications over the same areas in Alaska show variations in anomaly trends and wavelengths; therefore, individual survey specifications should be considered when interpreting this map.
