Abstract

Only the fundamentals of field operations are included here. The basic gravity measurement is similar to that of measuring elevations in that gravity differences are determined from one or more starting points or controls where gravity values were previously established or are assumed. just as levels are determined from previously established bench marks. Closure errors of the network are adjusted in much the same way that adjustments of closure errors are made for elevation surveys. The net work of gravity differences is adjusted for meter drift by observations at control stations several times a day. The result of the field operation is a network of points at which “station gravity” has been determined. Before being compiled into a map. these values must be corrected for certain well-known effects.
