Abstract

Each rockfall has a unique relationship with the particular geological and physical aspects of its location compared to other rockfalls. Particular attention is paid to an analysis using both rolling and bouncing rock calculations in the prediction of rockfall distribution. These measures help refine predictions involving the friction coefficient. They illustrate the importance of such factors in accurately managing rockfall in both rolling and bouncing trajectories. Solutions to rockfall problems were most economically dealt with by using settling ditches to dissipate the freefall energies of various rock sizes.

This study applies analytical principles and remedial design to a slope with outcrop discontinuities in the Chunder area of Hualien. It was initially unclear what specific geomorphological factors contributed to the typical rockfalls in the area. Many stratigraphic environmental factors were examined and a few discrete variables (such as mechanical factors) proved to be predictive of rockfall dynamics.
