Abstract
A review is presented of the seismic history, proposed seismic zoning, and the frequency of seismic events in New York State. It is shown that earthquakes are a very real and important design factor in New York. The data show that the St. Lawrence, Buffalo-Attica, and New York Metropolitan regions have been subjected to the highest intensity earthquakes and the greatest frequency of earthquake occurrence, but all of the state has felt large distant earthquakes as well. Design implications are briefly noted.
