Aida Sergeevna Andreeva-Grigorovich, an eminent Soviet and Ukrainian palynologist and micropalaeontologist, passed away on the 13th of April 2022 at the age of 86. She was one of a rare breed in that she studied two completely different planktonic groups from the Cretaceous to Neogene interval, i.e. dinoflagellate cysts and coccolithophores. Aida Sergeevna was one of the pioneers of the stratigraphical use of dinoflagellate cysts in the Soviet Union, and developed the first dinoflagellate cyst zonation (directly calibrated to calcareous nannoplankton zones) for the Palaeogene of the southern Soviet Union.
