ON COVER – Black shale of the lower Cambrian Qiongzhusi Formation, Chengkou outcrop, northeastern Sichuan Basin, China. The pyrobitumen in the dolomite of the Sinian (Neoproterozoic) Dengying Formation was formed by cracking of oil sourced from the Qiongzhusi shale. See related paper by Zuo et al. on p. 1373 of this issue of the Bulletin.
