ON COVER — Outcrop section of an unconformity between overlying Cretaceous strata and underlying high-angle Jurassic strata at the northwestern margin of the Junggar Basin, northwest China. The pattern of this unconformity is similar with the subsurface unconformity developed between the Wuerhe Formation and the Jiamuhe Formation in the late Permian in the Junggar Basin. The insert presents the whole view of the unconformity. See related article by Yuan et al., p. 1995 of this issue of the Bulletin. Photos taken by K. Y. Wu and G. H. Yuan.
