Heller and Dickinson (1985) distinguished between canyon-fed turbidite fan systems and delta-fed turbidite ramp systems. Although they acknowledged that their model represents only one point in a spectrum of turbidite facies models, they implied that the model they envisaged is “the model” for delta-front ramp settings. Further, they implied that their recognition of linked turbidite-slope-delta-plain sequences resulting from abrupt progradation of deltas into shallow basins is a novel contribution.
