The area discussed in this paper is situated in the south-central part of Grand County and the northern part of San Juan County, Utah. It comprises a block of approximately 500 square miles trending in a northwest-southeast direction along the Thompsons-to-Moab stage road as far as Moab, thence down Colorado River to its junction with Indian Creek. The area lies to the south of Thompsons, a station on the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad.
