Abstract

The concept of secondary porosity in sandstones--porosity caused by dissolution--has gained considerable attention recently. Contributions made by Chepikov and Savkevich, however, have been ignored completely in North American publications. Chepikov et al not only developed the first set of criteria for recognizing secondary porosity, but also attributed the dissolution of cements to the arrival of oil. Savkevich was the first to illustrate the trend of increasing porosity at considerable depths.--Modified journal abstract.
