Cohen has made a significant contribution to our understanding of the relationships that exist between plate tectonics and resulting stratigraphic facies, and the implications these relations have in hydrocarbon exploration. In general, Cohen’s model is sound and is supported by data from both modern and ancient orogenic zones. Although I have no major objections to the model, I address several minor problems that including timing of tectonic events and resulting lithostratigraphic facies. I cite data from other modern and ancient orogenes that seem to have histories similar to that of the proposed model.
