Abstract

Most parts of the Far East showed significant increased activity compared with 1981. No nationally important oil or gas discoveries in the region. Indonesia was the most active country outside of China. Possibly significant gas discovery in onshore East Kalimantan. Countries which had disappointing exploration programs in 1982 are Bangladesh, Burma, Japan, Philippines, and Taiwan. Production in the Far East declined slightly in 1982 to approximately 4.3 million BOPD from 4.4 million BOPD in 1981.--Modified journal abstract.
