Abstract

The number of wells drilled increased 7.1% over the record-breaking number in 1981. Exploratory tests increased slightly by 3.1%, and development wells increased 7.3% from 1981. Success rates for exploratory tests increased to 41.6%, but declined slightly for development wells to 75.4%. Of the 13,146 wells drilled, 20 successful exploratory wells and 1 exploratory dry hole are considered especially significant. While oil production increased slightly during 1982, gas production declined.--Modified journal abstract.
