Recent mapping and stratigraphic studies have resulted in revision of the Belt stratigraphy of the Lewis and Clark Range of western Montana. This revision facilitates correlation of Belt formations in the Lewis and Clark Range with Belt formations of the Glacier National Park, Bonner and Helena areas, and supports the correlation of the Siyeh Formation with the Helena Formation, rather than with the Newland Formation. Revision of the Belt stratigraphy of the Lewis and Clark Range also supports the presence of a small number of relatively widespread carbonate formations in the Belt Supergroup, rather than numerous local carbonate units at many different stratigraphic positions.
