The principal objective in writing the paper on Pennsylvanian and Permian basins in northwestern Utah, northeastern Nevada, and south-central Idaho (Roberts et al., 1965) was to present an over-all picture of the paleogeography and sedimentation. This was a summary report, and detailed documentation of the stratigraphy was not considered to be pertinent. Much of Bissell’s discussion seems to stem from fundamental disagreement with us over definitions of “depositional basin” and “formation, ” and from his reluctance to accept the writers’ concept of facies telescoping on thrust faults.
