Samples were obtained in 1956 off the Port of Veracruz, Mexico (Fig. 1), for a comparative study of Gulf of Mexico and Pacific Ocean reef sediments (Emery, 1963). Recently, foraminiferal analyses have been made on splits of 25 of the samples, with the purpose of demonstrating effects of littoral phenomena on the fauna of a reef environment. In the reef environment, such physical parameters as water turbulence and the resultant reworking of underlying sediments are the major factors delimiting the distribution patterns of inhabitant Foraminifera.
