Abstract

The X-ray fluorescence method was used to analyze 98 samples from the Lower Cretaceous Manville Group. Samples were from the Imperial Sprucefield No. 1 well located 55 mi northeast of Edmonton, Alberta. The average composition of the shales studied was 64.83 percent SiO 2 , 2.66 percent MgO, 15.72 percent Al 2 O 3 , 2.50 percent K 2 O, 2.42 percent CaO, 5.08 percent Fe 2 O 3 , 97 ppm Rb, and 210 ppm Sr.
