Abstract

Drilling data in the Fayetteville, N. C., area indicate that the "Buried Triassic Basin", discussed by Bonini (1964), does not exist. The samples generally have varying amounts of sericite or aligned mica, and none have the brown and reddish brown materials that form the bulk of the Triassic rocks in North Carolina. In the exposed Triassic basin in counties to the northwest, gray sediments are common only in the Cumnock Formation, the middle unit of the Newark Series.
