Abstract

Although a large, lithologically similar, diachronous rock unit may be useful in stratigraphy, differentiation of Ottawa Formation per se versus Ottawa Supergroup or Megagroup will result in unwarranted confusion. Winder suggests that the continued use of Ottawa for a lower rank unit, specifically group, should hold priority, and that its use be limited to the Ottawa-St. Lawrence Lowlands area.
