Abstract

Washington: Seven exploratory wells were drilled with none successful. Total exploratory footage was 33,707. Oregon: Six unsuccessful exploratory wells were drilled for a total footage of 23,335. California: Four hundred and seventeen exploratory wells were drilled, 7 fewer than in 1961. Total exploratory footage was 2,471,941, a decrease of 37,039 ft from 1961. The average depth per well was at 5928 ft vs. 5917 ft in 1961. Fourteen new fields, 5 oil and 9 gas, and 19 pools, 7 oil and 12 gas, were discovered. Exploration was 12.0% and 12.6% successful as to wells and footage, respectively, compared with 4.4% and 15.2% in 1961. Total number of well completions, including development wells, 2725 up 531 from 1961. Crude oil production was 295 million bbls, down 3 million or 1.1% from 1961. Natural gas production was 580 billion CF and production of natural gas liquids was 25.9 million bbls. Basement was reached in 31 unsuccessful exploratory wells. There were 37 active exploratory wells at the end of 1962.
