Abstract

Future major oil and gas deposits in the S. Arkansas and N. Louisiana region will come from deep drilling in one of the following sequences: 1) The Eagle Mills red beds [Permian], which occupy an asymmetrical trough N. of a structural high along the Arkansas-Louisiana state line. These are not considered potential reservoirs. 2) The Stanley-Jackfork-Atoka [Carboniferous] beds underlie the Eagle Mills and extend much further N. These may contain gas deposits but will be difficult and expensive to explore. 3) The Morehouse Formation, S. of the Arkansas-Louisiana state line high, presents the best possibilities for future deep production and deserves further investigation.
