While assembling data for a series of maps, the writer was struck by the number of very poorly located measured stratigraphic sections. Moreover, locations are not cited uniformly. Some are expressed in terms of geographic features; others by the U. S. Public Land Survey grid.

Measured sections used in the preparation of facies and other regional maps are best located in a manner similar to the location of wells, i.e., by section, township, and range.
