Abstract

The problems of fault nomenclature are discussed, and the terms "net slip" and "shift" are defined. Fault nomenclature needs general as well as specific terms. It is suggested that "normal" and " reverse" be defined in more general terms. The foremost job of a committee on fault nomenclature would be to set up 10-20 terms, some general, some specific, which can be put into general texts for beginning students.
