Abstract

The distribution of foraminifers in Miocene marls and limestones of the Wadi Feiran and Abu Zenima areas and in other localities leads to the conclusion that the Miocene embayment in the Suez gulf region (Egypt) was separated from the epicontinental Tethys sea to the north by a sill in the vicinity of Suez. The paleontologic evidence is supported by the existence of a gravity high and by regional thinning of Miocene sediments.
