Abstract

Data from seismic surveys and detailed analysis of the sedimentary sequence lead to the conclusion that the Anaco thrust in the Santa Ana oil-field region, Venezuela, was a normal fault whose growth was contemporaneous with Oligocene-early Miocene sedimentation. Reversal of movement took place during a later (Miocene) stage of deformation accompanying the folding which had been continuous and probably continued without interruption into Recent time.
