Abstract

The oil of the San Roque field, Anzoategui, Venezuela, occurs largely in lenticular sands in the Colorado member of the Oficina formation of Oligocene-Miocene age. The sands exhibit both vertical and horizontal grading. It is suggested that they were deposited in an epicontinental sea, at considerable distance from the shore, by turbidity currents flowing in channels scoured in the underlying fine-grained sediments.
