In the Bulletin for April, 1953, Dorsey Hager2 has presented the results of a detailed study of the vicinity of Meteor Crater in Arizona, with special emphasis on geologic structure and history. Because he has discarded the generally accepted interpretation of this feature, he reverts to the older name “Crater Mound,” although the name “Meteor Crater” has been officially approved by the U. S. Geographic Board. Instead of describing it as a mound “with a deep hole in its top” it would seem more accurate to say that it is a large crater (the Greek word for a bowl)...
