Abstract

At present in Colombia the Magdalena valley between the eastern and central ranges is the most important petroleum-producing section. Two geosynclinal areas of deposition are recognized, the North Andean geosyncline, Cretaceous and early Tertiary locus of deposition, and the downwarped Bolivar geosyncline between the present western and coastal ranges. Petroleum is found on asymmetric anticlines, in some places complexly folded.
