A core of the Ranger (McCleskey) sand was recently taken out of the Texas Pacific Coal and Oil Company No. 33 Norwood, in the old Ranger field, Eastland County, Texas.

This core removed all doubts as to this sand being of sedimentary origin. Small chunks of limestone, flint pebbles, and fossil vegetal remains were noticed in the core.
