The sedimentary basin of Gabon lies on the west coast of Africa, both onshore and offshore, between lat. 1° N and 4° S, from Equatorial Guinea to the Congo Republic (Figure 1).

Onshore it extends 175 km eastward, covering a total surface area of 90,000 km2 between the basement outcrop at the eastern limit and the 200 m isobath at the western limit.
