A recent article by Frank Greene1 is of great interest to the writer because of his study of the so-called “Bartlesville” sand in parts of northern Oklahoma and southern Kansas. As stated by Greene, red shale beds occur in Lincoln, Payne, Pawnee, Noble, and Kay counties, Oklahoma, and Cowley, Chautauqua, and Elk counties, Kansas. They are also found in many other counties in both Kansas and Oklahoma.
