Alton Brown's discussion implicitly addresses two different issues from Prinzhofer et al. (2000a) that we discuss separately in this article: (1) the physical possibility for natural gas, observed at present as a gas phase in sedimentary rocks to exhibit chemical and isotopic kinetic fractionation due to migration, and (2) the possibility for gas molecules, leaking from a reservoir through a seal as dissolved species, to form a gas phase above or in the seal.
