For 1989, the North African countries (Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Sudan, and Tunisia) showed marginal increases in acreage under rights (up 1.9%) and in overall drilling activity (up 0.2%) when compared with 1988. Seismic acquisition fell 25.5% compared to 1988, but crude oil production increased 5%. Amoco tested 20,170 BOPD at its October North 183-1 new-field wildcat in the Gulf of Suez and put the well on-stream late in the year.
